Have you read Congressman Tom Lantos' Letter To Virgin's CEO?

When Virgin America was lobbying for entry into the San Francisco market, it promised a neutral attitude towards workers who might choose union representation. That promise meant that workers who understood the benefits of collective bargaining would be able to seek it, without coercion. Promises, unfortunately, are sometimes broken.

Fortunately you're not in this alone. Congressman Tom Lantos is a longstanding friend of working families. Here's the text of the letter from your Congressman to your CEO at Virgin America.

December 4, 2007

Mr. Fred Reid, Chief Executive Officer
Virgin America
555 Airport Blvd.
Burlingame, CA 94010

Dear Fred:

In a recent meeting with some of my constituents I learned of a campaign for union representation among certain employee groups at Virgin America.

I was also informed that some of these employees fear they may be targeted by management as a result of exercising their legal right to join together and seek representation. This is a fear I would like to believe is misguided. Nonetheless, I would be remiss if I failed to expires my concern that an employee's choice of whether or not to seek, support, or for that matter, elect to be represented by a union be exercised in a free and fair manner.

To that end, I trust the management of Virgin America will respect the right of these employees to seek representation for purposes of collective bargaining without influence, interference or coercion on the part of their employer.

Most Cordially,
TOM LANTOS
Member of Congress
